Face Book Etiquette

1) You must have a picture. This is not the Question-mark book.

2) This picture should actually look like you. Using a picture in which you appear significantly more attractive than you actually are creates confusion and disappointment.

3) You should be the only person in your picture. Pair and group photos are misleading, especially when they include incredibly hot people.

4) Rule 3 applies to significant others. We're happy about your relationship, but save the cuddling for webshots.

5) Why are you smoking/drinking in your picture? It doesn't make you look cool. Also, your beverage or that plume of smoke is probably blocking your face.

6) You must have some kind of legitimate network. If you have never in your life been affiliated with any school, employer, or region of the world, question your own existence.

7) “I don’t read” is not a favorite book just as “NEthing but country” isn’t favorite music. Also, take the time to format your personal information; making one long sentence does not make you an individual, just impossible to link to.

8) Don't join/start a group for everything. Stay focused.

9) Confirm all friend requests from your school, even if you have no idea who the person requesting your friendship is.

10) Don’t randomly add people you to make it look like you have more friends. It makes you look like a stalker, which you probably are.

11) Don’t friend random people, it makes you look like a stalker, which you probably are.

12) Don't edit your own wall, it makes you look like a loser.

13) Fake relationships can be confusing for those not in on the joke. Make sure your interested in status does not match your fake relationship.

14) Don’t over-poke. Poking is the lowest form of facebook communication. Poking an actual friend once can be a nice thinking of you but poking a stranger ten times is not ok. If you’re trying to flirt, suck it up and send a message.

15) You obviously check Facebook every 5 minutes, so please respond to your messages in a timely manner. Chances are you're making the message-sender extremely insecure.

16) Just because there wasn't a question in a message someone sent you does not mean that you do not have to respond. As small talk is virtually eliminated through facebooking, every comment deserves a response.

17) When you make an album, tag and caption all pictures except group shots over fifteen people.

18) Don’t untag yourself in a picture just because you look bad, it’s cheating. They got you fair and square, be a good sport and let everyone else laugh.

19) Join as many applications as you want BUT keep your profile clean. Stay focused with profile boxes. Most importantly, if all of the graffiti/bumper/slideshow/pet-raising/garden-growing/game-playing/gift-giving/pretend-dating-service boxes give any poor soul who clicks your profile a headache, tone it down.

20) If you are not on Facebook that does not mean that people will think you are cool or mysterious. It means no one is thinking about you at all. - by Facebook
